Forge runs a steel fab shop the way the shop actually runs. The takeoff comes off the detailing sheets with every weight verified, the nest tells the saw what to pull and from which rack, every mark scans through its stations, and the CWB records write themselves while the shop works.

Built and run inside a working CWB-certified fabricator. The features below aren't a roadmap; they're in use.

A takeoff you can defend, in hours.

Forge reads the material lists straight off Tekla and SDS/2 detailing PDFs — the real text layer, not a blurry scan of it — and falls back to AI vision only for the sheets that need it. Then it checks the work: every weight is re-derived from the shape designation against the official AISC database. A W12x26 prices at 26 lb/ft because that's what a W12x26 weighs, not because a model felt confident.

  • Verified against AISC v16. 2,299 shapes on file — W, HSS, WT, pipe, metric sections converted properly. A garbled size gets flagged, never guessed.
  • Evidence on the page. Each line carries the sheet and the box it came from, burned onto a marked-up PDF you can hand to the client.
  • Shop hours from your history. A labour engine modelled on the PowerFab codes your estimators already think in, calibrated on real jobs.
  • Erection priced line by line. Task-based field-erection sheets with crane and machine hours per piece class, not a lump-sum guess.
  • Gated like real money. Bids over $250,000 need a second person's recorded review before they leave the building.

The whiteboard, retired.

Import the job from your detailer — DSTV .nc1, KISS .kss, or a plain Excel BOM — and every mark gets a route through your stations. From there the shop runs itself on scans.

  • Barcode labels and station kiosks. Print Code 128 labels and scan pieces through cut, fit, weld, paint, ship — the kiosk scanner reads Code 128 and QR alike. If the shop wifi drops, scans queue offline and sync when it's back.
  • Nesting that respects the rack. Least-scrap bar nesting with kerf and trim honoured, remnants consumed first, and a pull list that says which rack and which heat lot — so traceability survives the saw.
  • A finish forecast you can quote. The ETA comes from your shop's trailing three-week throughput, flags pieces stuck three days or more, and tells you honestly when a due date is gone.
  • Capacity, not vibes. The shop loader spreads estimated station-hours across weeks of real capacity and shows the bottleneck before you commit to a date.
  • A ship gate with a spine. A load with an open NDE reject or incomplete fab doesn't leave — it's held until disposition, with an office override that leaves a record.

Heat to bar, bar to mark, mark to weld, weld to load. When the client asks where a beam came from, the answer is a click, not an afternoon in the file room.

The audit binder that builds itself.

Every weld logged at the station lands as a structured record: welder, process, WPS, date, result. When the CWB auditor or the client's QA shows up, the records already exist — consistent, complete, and exportable as one package.

  • Welder continuity to CSA W47.1, computed per process from your actual production log — not from a spreadsheet somebody forgot to update.
  • Heat and MTR traceability from receiving through nesting to the shipped piece.
  • NCRs with real dispositions — use-as-is, repair, rework, scrap — and corrective actions that get an effectiveness check before they close.
  • The steel data book in CWB/AISC format: one ordered export with the actual MTR scans merged in.

Load the IFC — or translate Navisworks and Revit files in — and see the job coloured by live status: fabricated marks in blue, shipped in green. Scrub the 4D timeline against the schedule, straight from a P6 .xer import.

  • Revision reconcile that compares the new model against the floor — and alarms when a changed piece is already fabricated, before it becomes rework you eat.
  • A token link for the GC or erector: live fab progress, no login, no phone calls.
  • Runs in the browser. No Navisworks seat required to look at the job.
